Carapace Travel Hub

The Carapace Travel Hub provides the following:

multiple concurrent Videotex connections to travel operators across a single phone line -- this saves you money on phone bills.
automatic logon to the the various travel operators -- saving your staff time when connecting
dials the travel provider (Telewest or X-tant) on demand when a Videotex connection is required
configurable inactivity timeout on the phone connection -- ensuring you only pay for connection time when required
a monitor on the state of the Hub accessible over your local network using a web browser
can be automatically detected by any Carapace Travel Window running on your network
Runs on Windows NT/2000/98/95

Concurrent Connections

The Travel Hub uses a dialup connection to the service provider (Telewest or X-tant). This dialup connection carries multiple TCP sessions which, in turn, carry the Videotex sessions.

In this way, multiple Videotex sessions can be carried across a single phone line, so that you significantly reduce your communications charges from other systems which require one phone line for each Videotex session.

Automatic Logon

Once at the Logon screen for a given travel operator, the Travel Hub supplies the configured user name and password information to log on to the service.

Dial on Demand

When the Travel Hub receives a request for a Videotex connection it does one of the following:

if already connected over the phone line, the Videotex connection is established through to the appropriate service
if the phone is not connected, the provider (Telewest or X-tant) is first dialed -- once the connection is made, the Videotex session is established

Since dialling can take several seconds, messages are sent back to the Travel Window which is being connected to show the status of the dialling process.

Web-based Monitor

The Travel Hub contains a monitor to allow the Hub status to be viewed using a web browser across your network. Simply connect to the URL:

    http://myhost:8000

where myhost is the TCP hostname of the machine running your hub. The default port (8000) can be changed by the Travel Hub Configurator.
